Well actually, they aren't really atheist books, but they are books by authors that get brough up here a lot. I got The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan and The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. I'm excited. :)

For a real atheism book try Atheism (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0192804243/InternetInfidels/qid=1105011406) by Julian Baggini. :)

Those are both good! It's not an atheist book per say, but I finally got around to purchasing Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. So far, it's intensely interesting, and the latter chapters look even better.

I found it quite hard reading, not exactly a page turner, but what I learnt from it just blew my mind.

i've recently ordered 'guns, germs and steel'...should be getting it in my mail any day now. can't wait to read it.
i've read 'the demon haunted world'...good book. really made me see how important science is.
and i've read 'atheism: a case against god' by george smith not too long ago. now that's a good atheist book! it's like the bible for atheists. if you haven't read it...do it!

I've got Demon-Haunted World, and for Christmas (seemed appropriate :D ) I bought myself both of Karen Armstrong's most-cited books, History of God and Battle for God. I'm still struggling through the first one - it's hard slogging for me, being ADD, I can only absorb a few pages at a time. But I'm both fascinated and determined.
Next will be Barker's Losing Faith in Faith. Maybe next year... :(

Both of those books are excellent. You'll probably be inspired to read all of Sagan's and Dawkins' books after you finish those! I'd also recommend Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot" and "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" and Dawkins' "The Blind Watchmaker".
Next will be Barker's Losing Faith in Faith. Maybe next year...
Also an excellent book that I would highly recommend. I lent my copy to my brother, who is a Methodist minister (although he's not a fundamentalist/Biblical literalist type). It has been 3 years since he read the book, and since that time he has never once given me any books of Christian apologetics nor has he even brought up religion in a conversation with me again. That alone says something...

I remember when I bought my first "athiest" book, too. I was on a trip with my fundie grandparents and needed reading material, so I snuck George H. Smith's Why Atheism? into the pile I already had, bought it, and read it in the hotel bathroom with the light on after everybody fell asleep. Even now I have no clue why I bought it to begin with, not that I have any regrets. It's not the best book on atheism I've ever read, nor did I deconvert for a couple more years, but it really changed my views on atheism and will always hold sentimental value for me.
