Just got a telemarketer call from Branson Missouri, selling vaction time in exchange for attending one of those time-shares seminars (our 17 y/o daughter had filled out something about getting information on vacation stuff. they'd wanted to speak to her or her husband :Cheeky: ). The lady on the phone was a real hoot.

She gave me the line:"We're all about God and family values out here!"

And I politely told her "That doesn't impress me, we're atheists"

She nearly tripped over her own spiel, as she giggled nervously and told me that no-one had ever told her that before. She continued her spiel for a moment, then put me on hold and someone else came on.

I think I skeered her :devil3:

The package for three nights for up to five family members wasn't bad for only @ $100.

I told the new guy he could call back later, and did some searching on the net. Lo-and behold - the first hit on a search for "Branson, Missouri +atheists" gave an IIDB post:
Adventures in Fundyland (http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=36414) by ksagnostic.

I don't know what would be more fun, giving the guy the runnaround when he calls back asking for non-religious accomodations and such, or actually going to Branson and shocking their world.

Maybe we could have an IIDB convention there

Thanks Darrell, I laughed out load at this one.

I think an atheist convention there sounds perfect. :devil1:

Oh dear. Well, I guess if Andy Williams and Pat Boone are the headliners there, God and family values have to go along with it. Not that there's anything wrong with family values, as long as they don't have to be Christian family values.

Well, maybe if we do, I can stay in my parents' timeshare there.

They didn't even consult me, they just went and signed up for it last year. Somehow I think it was my mom who made that decision. My dad is agnostic. And my mom isn't even that fundy either. But she has like 20 goddamn Andy Williams records. But I needn't worry about it. The acid-eating crooner (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0%2C4273%2C4117798%2C00.html) won't live forever.

Cheers,

That’s basically the same reaction I got from Mormons at the door. Good stuff. It shocks people, but if you're going to deprovincialize someone, shock therapy is great medicine.

I was down there on business last year and stopped in one of those places where you can buy tickets to the shows.

There was a large placard on the wall advertising Jim Bakker of the Jim and Tammy Faye Fame.

He had a radio talk show and you cold buy tickets to attend the show in person.
