Apparently, the Judiciary is a greater threat to our freedoms than Nazi Germany, or Al Qaeda today. Even given the chance to clarify it, he just makes it worse. You know, as a lawyer, I sometimes get pissed at the rulings coming out of certain members of our judiciary. But shit. I never even heard of any one of them upholding genocide as acceptable or rationalizing it. But according to the leader of the religious right, they are worse than nazis. Fuck you Robertson, just fuck you.

Then of course he goes and adds that Muslims should be banned from serving as Judges in our country. Is he even aware of the Constitution's no religious test clause?

I can't help but wonder that with remarks like these why he continues his charade that he does not wish to turn our country into a theocracy. What's the difference? Religious oppression, Jews and Christians only need apply for government jobs. Enforced Religious "truths" in public schools.

God, please save us from your followers.

Wow. I didn't realise Pat Robertson was insane. That is the only explanation I think for him to consider the judiciary is more dangerous to liberty than he is. What I find interesting about his verbal diahrea is that they are coming from a "man" who wants to turn this country into the Christian equivalent of Taliban ruled Afghanistan.

I can't link that article to anyone because MoveOnPAC instantly means liberal propaganda in their eyes.

Robertson, who had a brief 1988 GOP presidential bid, told "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos that federal jurists were a more serious threat to America than "a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings" and that Muslims were unfit to hold federal judgeships.

"And they have said in the Quran there's a war against all infidels," Robertson said. "Do you want somebody like that sitting as a judge? I wouldn't."

I guess what he meant is that they're a threat to the Religious Reich's desire to turn the U.S. into a theocracy.

Exactly. That is what the Religious Reich want. They want a totalitarian Christian theocracy. The only difference between them and the Taliban is the bullshit they want imposed. They don't want freedom of religion. What they really want is the freedom to impose their tryannical views on all of us. It's a shame that they already won. The way I see it, the issue is not a matter of if they will take over, but one of when they will.

The Religious Reich will not rest until they can control every aspect of our lives. By casting their lot with the Religious Reich, the Republicans have betrayed their own principles of favouring big business (which will get fucked in the ass once the Reich takes over) and small government by casting their lot with the Religious Reich. Hopefully, centuries hence when our descendents rebuild this land from the ashes of what was once America, there will still be a world left living in. Hopefully, our final collapse will happen when China has fully entered the world stage as the next military and economic superpower.

Oh, don't give up hope. I hate the religious reich too, but I also believe that while they'd love to establish a theocracy they can't really do it. Despite the rhetoric, a lot of people oppose them. Bush may have won the election but just barely. Part of the reason we are having this battle all of a sudden, is that they are losing and secular influences are indeed on the rise. The increase in the numbers of people calling themselves non-religious is a real threat to their future well being. Of course there will always be churches for the foreseeable future, but they feel the heat and have turned to the government to bail them out which they previously didn't need. But it isn't necessarily going to work. First they are too divided internally. Falwell and Robertson don't see eye to eye and are suspicious of each other. Second, if they take the battle further they risk losing the next election. A majority of people are suspicious of any merger of church and state and theocratic leanings of the Republican Party can hurt them in the polls - probably more than it can help them.

The truth is that despite the last elections, the Republicans are in real trouble. Their economic plan isn't working, we are mired in Iraq, and the populace is a little leary of Bush's religious conservatism. They will not have an increase in Senate seats in 06, and they will have a smaller margin in the House. It is even possible that Democrats will take back one side. (with a little luck.)

The unknown factor is foreign issues - another terrorist attack and I would be concerned.

In any event, they can be fought and they can be defeated; but frankly it will take involvement by many of you here. Move to a barely red state: Florida or Ohio if you can, get involved in campaigns, get involved in letter writing to editors, write guest editorials, debate and educate on campuses and elsewhere. Here's to victory in '08.

Sad to say, I ran this by my Born Again friend and he essentiallly shrugged and said 'Aren't they?' After all, the genocidal Nazis 'only' killed 10 million, Al Qaeda are romper room kids compared to them but liberal judges in America? They can 'make liberal immoral ungodly laws' that affect all 300 million of the U.S. population and THAT's more dangerous. Essentiallly using the argument that white collar criminals are more dangerous to the public at large than blue collar criminals.

Whats so ironic about this situation is that the judges that Robertson is damning to hell are the ones that, for the most part, were appointed by Republicans.

And who on earth are they going to blame for all the ills of society when evolution, abortion, homosexuality, and stem cell research is eliminated? Huh? ;)

There won't be a society left when the Reich takes over. They will destroy this country. Once they win, the country the founders sacrificed so much to create will no longer in any form other than memory.

So true Scigirl. It would almost be fun watching them squirm when a terrible calamity hits and they yell that someone somewhere must not be believing just right. Just another excuse for a further round of repression. Tyranny requires such calamities to maintain its power.
