Link works. Basically it's a selection of very interesting quotes from some prominent American figures - mainly Christian. As I said, highly informative (if true).

Okay. It must be Netscape or something because I can't get it at all. I'm too technically ignorant to try to figure it out so don't worry about it. I've read several Taliban like quotes from Xians so I get the idea.

From the link:

"God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them"

I have read that site before. To say that I find some of the comments there disturbing would be a colossal understatement. What I find interesting is how they don't realise that they are just like the Muslim fundamentalists they despise. The only difference between them and the likes of Osama Bin Laden is the "holy" scripture they revere.

What I find even more interesting is that if you spent enough time, I bet you can find prominent Muslim fundamentalists making comments that mirror the comments of the Christian Taliban. They are the same sides of analagous coins.

I read most of it. I will have to save it for later. We should have all of those people exiled to Antartica. Let them have their theocracy there.

Wheeler dealer behind the Terry Schaivo mess; all-star jerk.

"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called by God to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."

"Our goal must be simple. We must have a Christian nation built on God's law, on the ten Commandments. No apologies."

"I don't think Christians should use birth control. You consummate your marriage as often as you like – and if you have babies, you have babies."

"When I, or people like me, are running the country, you'd better flee, because we will find you, we will try you, and we'll execute you. I mean every word of it. I will make it part of my mission to see to it that they are tried and executed."*

"There is going to be war, [and Christians may be called to] take up the sword to overthrow the tyrannical regime that oppresses them."

Holy smokes. That is some repugnant shit.

Some repugnant scary shit.

It's funny how many Christians assume that atheists should be out killing people, assuming that only belief in God prevents that, when in fact it seems for some just the opposite is true--that only the government repressinng their murderous frenzies is what's stopping some of these Christaliban from running amok and murdering at will.

Makes perfect sense to me. The world is a mirror; you see yourself in it. If you would kill without the government holding you back...

Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, Pentagon, Special Ops

“George Bush was not elected by a majority of the voters in the United States, he was appointed by God.
My personal favorite Boykinism: (CBS News, 9-15-04)
This is what Boykin said about one Somali warlord who believed Allah would protect him from being captured by Americans: “I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol.
God's appointed backed Boykin when it hit the fan, as did the Pentagon.

What, that someone from the Institute for Creation Research thinks that science sucks?

Wow, I'm so surprised that I think my head is going to explode. Oh no.....

Next thing you'll tell me that KKK members aren't usually married to Black people. I'm shocked and awed, I tell you. Just shocked and awed.

Um I did not know that we are gassing Christians and using them as slave labor. :banghead:

Its ez to pick a few extremists out and make hay, you could do the same with some atheists. THeres plenty of hatefilled atheists, although no-ones listening to them.

One quote caught my eye though, Joe McCarthy.!

"Today we are engaged in a final, all-out battle between Communistic Atheism and Christianity."

Its a bit old now because God was on our side and their side collapsed.
So I guess Joe was on to something, he might have been nuts but the principle prevailed without him.

I watched a documentry on PBS about how instrumental the Polish Pope (whatshisname) was in bringing down one of communisms legs, he was a man of fearless courage.

Do atheists have a similar figure ?

Do atheists have a similar figure ?

Why should we? We're not a religion or organization of any sort.

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different...More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." - Pat Robertson

I was surprised how ignorant Pat Robertson comes off in those quotes. I always knew he was fundametalist, I just didn't realize how ignorant he is.

And then there's this little jem from Joseph Sheidler:

"I would like to outlaw contraception...contraception is disgusting – people using each other for pleasure."

I feel sorry for his wife.

Of course, no collection of this sort would be complete without a quote from the king of the twisted loony toons, Fred Phelps:

"Not only is homosexuality a sin, but anyone who supports fags is just as guilty as they are. You are both worthy of death."

You know, I can't help but wonder why this man is so obsessed with homosexuals. Me thinks he doth protest too much.

There is some dispute regarding the James Watt quote: We don't have to protect the environment, the Second Coming is at hand.According to the wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_G._Watt), this may be a distortion of Watt's actual statement before Congress.

A simillar quote has been debunked*: God gave us these things to use. After the last tree is felled, Christ will come back. The actual statement is:That is the delicate balance the Secretary of the Interior must have: to be steward for the natural resources for this generation as well as future generations. I do not know how many future generations we can count on before the Lord returns; whatever it is we have to manage with a skill to leave the resources needed for future generations. He's saying just the opposite.

* see The Godly Must be Crazy (http://www.grist.org/news/maindish/2004/10/27/scherer-christian/index.html), Grist Magazine Oct. 27 2004, corrections.
