At a web site at http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/66730_helen.shtml there is an article that Helen Thomas wrote for Hearst Newspapers. Among other things, Ms. Thomas says, "Laura Bush differed with her husband when she appeared on NBC's 'The Today Show' in January 2001 and said she did not believe that Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, should be overturned. He (President Bush) says it should." Ms. Thomas quoted Laura Bush biographer Antonia Felix as saying, "She (Laura Bush) must have taken some flak for her renegade stand." Ms. Thomas then says, "As Felix notes, she made it clear she would not publicly repeat it."

I look forward to Christians trying to explain their way out of this one. I assume that George Bush is not at all opposed to abortion, but wants to court the religious right because of their numbers and money. Although Bush Sr. scathingly attacked Pat Robertson when Robertson joined the presidential primaries, with Jr.'s blessing of course, Robertson had no problem supporting Bush Jr. Robertson has opposed the U.S. occupation of Iraq from the start.

Thanks but its an old story. Nancy Reagan and Babs (Barbara Bush) are also pro-choice. Now to think about it, Reagan and Daddy Bush were probably also pro-choice. I have heard that the rep. party is still pro-life, but its close: 60-40 is what I've heard. I actually am in favor of the new judge, Roberts, overruling Roe v Wade. Too many people are voting for the reps because they were against governement spending (what a joke) and scared of Saddam. If the reps ever lose power, it will be because they overreach their power on personal issues and lose the support of the middle.

It is an old story to you, but I never never about it until I read the old article. In addition, I am quite certain that out of every 100 people you ask, at least 25 know nothing about Laura Bush's position on abortion. If Bush Jr. does not oppose abortion, then he is a hypocrit.

From a Christian viewpoint, what could possibly be better than being aborted and never having to bear the burdens in this life? Some babies are born with severe cases of cerebral palsy and a host of other serious disorders. Some of them die several weeks after birth after having to endure a lot of suffering.

Regarding the benefits of this life, which are most certainly not equitably distributed, giving no evidence at all of divine distribution, our time here is so brief as compared to eternity that benefits are of next to no consequence whatsoever. Would you prefer to have been born in any state of health, no matter how bad? Would you now prefer to endure life in any state of health, no matter how bad? Do you oppose physician assisted suicide? Do you opposed Terri Schiavo's death? Do you have a living will?

I read in your profile that you are a liberal Christian. What are your agenda in this forum?

Geez, I wasn't attacking you, I was just saying that it's not great secret that the Reagan women and Bush women are more liberal than their husbands. I did say thanks for the article.

Strange post. What are the burdens of life? I love life.

Regarding the benefits of this life, which are most certainly not equitably distributed, giving no evidence at all of divine distribution, our time here is so brief as compared to eternity that benefits are of next to no consequence whatsoever.

Again, I'm not following you. What benefits are you talking about? No benefits are not equally distributed.

Would you prefer to have been born in any state of health, no matter how bad? Would you now prefer to endure life in any state of health, no matter how bad?

I have a living trust. If I'm brain dead, please pull the plug.

Do you oppose physician assisted suicide?

I do not. I think that right wingers aught to mind their own business. Only a right-winger would give a damn if a guy dying of cancer wanted to do himself in.

Do you opposed Terri Schiavo's death? Do you have a living will?

The Terri Schiavo case made me uneasy. If I were in the shoes of the husband, I would have deferred to the parents. But that's easy for me to say. The government should stay the hell out the situation and allow the family to decide. Ultimately, and legally, it’s the husband's responsibility.

I read in your profile that you are a liberal Christian. What are your agenda in this forum?

I have no agenda. I love science and debating creationists. I am probably more like an Agnostic. However, I have a amazing wife, who is a fundy. And she drives me to church once a week. What can I say, I'm human.
