The law in the UK is such that the head teachers of schools that fail to comply with this law could be arrested!

In the early 90s a British Government Minister said, with a smile on his face, that he had the power to order the arrest of half the head teachers in Britain for failing to comply with this law.

This is a scandal! The government should immediately order the police to arrest all these head teachers - who are a threat to the moral well-being of their pupils! The law is the law and should be obeyed!

I agree! And we a should also arrest everyone for not doing archery practice on Sundays or for being a dwarf in Colchester or whatever other myriad unenforced and unrepealed laws remain on the statute books.

This is a good example of how constitutions and the law in general are not merely written documents but products of a larger social and political milieu.

Umm see CSS!

And why weren't you doing your archery practice then? Sounds like a good reason to bunk off church - the law probably applies in US cos I bet you yanks never repealed it!
