A TV channel on Sunday aired purported footage of Muslim clerics in the national capital and Uttar Pradesh issuing fatwas for a payment, triggering condemnation from community leaders and protests in Meerut.

One of the clerics, Ahmed Nadir Al Qasmi, an official of Delhi-based Islamic Fiqh Academy, was shown allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 for issuing a fatwa.

The footage also purportedly showed Maulana Imran, a cleric from Meerut, allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 for issuing five fatwas against the wearing of jeans by girls in Muslim-run institutes and the teaching of English in madrassas.

In Meerut, students of a madrassa staged a protest against the clerics, saying the incident had "hurt" the community. Muslim leaders convened a meeting of clerics to decide whether action should be taken against those named in the sting operation.

This certainly proves that religion has nothing to do with morality! :p

Actually, religion and morality are both manifestations of the same tendency to form belief systems. That is the commonality they share and corruption can enter into any belief system and destroy it.

Government is another example of a belief system that can be destroyed by corruption. Why would you think it is necessary to show a distinction between religion and morality and not rather a distinction between government and morality, science and morality, philosophy and morality, art and morality, etc. etc.? All are beliefs systems that can be destroyed by corruption.

Now now, if William the conk had not committed too many sins to do penance for, requiring the mass production of prayers in monasteries, leading to some becoming good capitalists and improving wool farming and iron working, we might not have had capitalism and an industrial revolution!

We might be looking at the islamic ipod here!

IIDB is always looking for money - we could sell anti fatwahs at a lower price! Three for the price of 2!

Because I am tired of all the theists who turn up here to say that God is the only source of morality and all atheists are immoral by definition. :banghead:
