Sometimes, for amusement, I listen to Hank Hanegraaff's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Hanegraaff) radio show on the way home from work. Yesterday he was once again rallying against evolutionary theory, calling it "THE difinitive issue" facing christians in today's world. In the past I have heard him call Darwin a racist and sexist, but this time it is almost as though they are pulling out the blocks. It sounded like a call to arms against this "influence" which supposedly prevades everything in the modern world.
Is this indicative of an increased effort by creationists?
Are creationists in general gaining ground, losing ground, or just continuing to pound sand like they usually do?

Either way they have so little ground scientifically that they should in any sane world be completely irrelevant.

This is not a sane world. Therefore, they might be winning on the strength of organization, PR, and irrational belief alone.

Lack of intelligence/education (fear, ignorance etc.) will fuel religion. Trouble is with the advent of more and more technology there is ever-increasing scope for people to not understand something or not understand how everything ties together and are more likely to turn to religion which "states" it all for them already. Even if it does look to be a load of insane tosh, it's enough for the lesser intelligences... Definitely a lower class of "human".
People also do not like change. Evolutionarily speaking change should be resisted as it creates an unpredictable environment to raise offspring. Forced change is likely to be resisted even more resolutely (take a look at the rest of the world incase you missed it).
You can assume that without proper teachings and environment, that are restricted by how our system operates, that creationism is on the increase. The world we have created for ourselves is kinda self-defeating. :(
IMO the human race is at a crossroads and has been since the black death where people started to question the validity of religion for the first time and started to consider materialism a bit more level-headedly. This is a war of ascension. If the creationists win, the human race will certainly become extinct by the time our solar systems current state changes. If the evolutionists win, the human race has a chance of out-living our solar system assuming some greed-war doesn't wipe us out first...
