RELIGION will return to Australia's state school classrooms, with students expected to study beliefs from the Aboriginal Dreamtime to the Koran.

Sounds like a good idea. While I don't think schools should teach *A* religion, teaching about various religions is a good idea as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. I would also be in favor of such a comparative religion course in American schools.

Side note: My school doesn't have a comparative religion class, but that's what we basically do in history/social studies in 7th and 9th grade. I think a lot of school are like this.

Anyway, I also think this is a good idea.

In principle I agree with it but in my RE classes it was 95% christian (protestant) religion and 5% others.

Yeah--comparative religion is often used as a cover for religion.

I wonder if they will be examining books like End of Faith et al. in these RE classes (as if!)?

In principle, yes. Nevertheless, how these supertitious beliefs are presented is the key. Hopefully the students won't get the idea that it's ok to believe nonsense.

It's potentially a good idea, but it also opens he door to a new danger. I hope the Aussie school system is good, teaches to think, and helps the students make up their own mind wisely.
