Has this word ever been used in a socially constructive way?

One of the enemies for the Incredible Hulk was called The Abomination.
I dunno, but it's better than nothing.

According to dictionary.com the word just means something that is greatly disliked. Why the God Hates Fags people go around touting the word all the time like anybody really gives a shit is beyond me. So you greatly dislike homosexuals? Good for fucking you.
So, to answer your question I would like to take a stab at it....
The KKK is an abomination to white people everywhere! It is socially constructive because other than racist assholes, you won't find too many people who don't agree with my statement. :)

Why the God Hates Fags people....
It has been long established that this is a blatant misquotation of scripture, as a search of the archives will readily show. The correct interpretation is ‘God Hates Figs’.

I wasn't aware there was one. It just goes to show you can't have all the good ideas, and you're never too handsome to learn.
