Greetings! I would like to thank posters and boards like these that have improved my life so much. After a lifetime of useless, damaging religion I have recently deconverted and am grasping the truth of atheism. Please suggest further reading and web sites that will enlighten my mind.
I am an emotional person and with all this holiday crap beginning soon and the baby jesus bullshit, I know it will start the guilt trip again.
I get a rush when i blaspheme or say jeeeezusfuckingchrist in the right company as an affirmation of the self perceived damage religion has done to me.
Interestingly, now that I am godless,my life and attitudes and energy level have all improved. How about you ladies? Do you relate with this story? It is so easy for me to find male nonbelievers.
Anyway, thanks for your support and contributions.

Here's a site for you:

The Bible of the Good and Moral Atheist (http://www.freewebs.com/thebgma/index.htm)

It has a section on Books (http://www.freewebs.com/thebgma/a18books.html) with a ton of Freethought reading you might like. You can also find a ton of websites in the Resources (http://www.freewebs.com/thebgma/a37resources.html) section.

Enjoy!

Not really, but I was never much of a believer anyway. I was just force-fed the stuff.

I can't always tell gender from the nics here, but it seems to me that there are lots of women here.

My favorite book on atheism is Atheism: The Case Against God by George H. Smith. Have you read that?

Probably more than you think. All the atheist men are busy sacrificing goats to Baal :D

I recommend Dawkins' The God Delusion if you haven't read it.

For a more scientific explination of the universe (if you like theoretical/atrophysics), A Breif History of Time by Stephen Hawking and The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.

Welcome!

Firstly, I wouldn't use the phrase, "the truth of atheism". That kinda gave me shudders. Let's leave the claim of absolute 'truth' to the gullible god deluded.

Reality also consists of many gray areas and unknowns, and atheism is rooted in that natural realm of reality.

I personally would much rather you had said you are "grasping the honesty of atheism". :)

As for reading, I would strongly recommend the writings of Joseph Lewis, among which these two are my two favorites:

"Atheism" (1930)
http://www.positiveatheism.org/hist/lewis/lewis06.htm

"An Atheist Manifesto" (1954)
http://www.positiveatheism.org/hist/lewis/lewis03.htm

They very succinctly lay out the big picture of "damaging religion".
