I've heard a number of people bring up the possibility(and i mean that in the loosest sense of the word) of atheists getting into heaven on account of having the commonsense to be skeptical. I put it to you that a god wishing to punish atheists would also send them to heaven. this is because the concept of a vengeful and "imperfect" god (the abrahamic god comes to mind) is particularly loathed by atheists, and the greatest punishment to give atheists would be to make them spend eternity in his/hers/its "paradise".
thoughts? :)

I don't know about that, If I died and ended up in heaven with Jesus and the whole 9 years, give me a robe and I'll start singing his praises. The problem is that it won't happen.
I think most atheist would like to have an everlasting life if the interest level of century to century is kept up with something fun, challenging, feel good. Of course there has to be some kind of downside to appreciate the good times, so I want some amount of failure, bad times, loss, etc. I do need a challenge and with out loss, it is just boring. Hey did I just describe my life on Earth minus a few trillion years. Maybe this is heaven. Where is my robe?

my only heaven would be immortality, the same as i am right now, only i live forever. that's a bit of a sellout, singing his praises. i mean if i wound up in heaven (god forbid  ;) ) i'd like to sort some shit out with mr. "i'm a supreme being", mano e mano. i'd just have to be a dickhead about everything, that's my paradise :D

Kw. your problem is that you don't know how to conform... blend in with the crowd. I would suggest taking a few free lessons at your local Baptist Church. LOL Get this worship thing down <img src="graemlins/notworthy.gif" border="0" alt="[Not Worthy]" />

Yes, if I found out that I had to exist forever in the same realm as the god described in the OT, I would consider myself to be in hell.
If I had to exist forever in the same realm as the god described in both the OT and the NT, I would be safely in oblivion, since such a god cannot exist. :)

An ancient, corny Hindu story that I thought which is supposed to demonstrate the importance eof keeping God (in whatever carnation, this is Hinduism, mind you) in mind.
There was once a famous atheist who spoke the most heinous blasphemies about God wherever he went. Even when he was alone, he always kept reminding himself that there was no God. When he died, his soul was instantly united with God in bliss, for, as some forms of Hinduism dictate, he had kept God constantly in mind.

That's quite a story. Does anyone know where it comes from?

The closest anyone can come is to loathe some human image of God. Most are quite loathesome, but this reflects the human authors of the fictional accounts.
I would like nothing more than to wind up in the presence of a Loving Omnipotent Being. The loathesomeness and implausibility of the human images of God have left me convinced that this is impossible, but who knows? Absolutely no-one.
