Really.

The priest actually complained that atheists are pushing their beliefs on other people without realizing the irony of that statement.

It depends. If you're a Catholic you can complain. But then the complaint should be directed towards Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons too. Actually they do: In Costa Rica at least, many have stickers on their doors saying "No insistan, somos católicos." (Do not insist, we're Catholic).
The real irony would be hearing that from Mormons.

I so naively wish this to be true.

Most atheists I know simply will not get out of bed on Saturday to go door to door singing the praises of their life to christians.

I've always figured that as one of the advantages. Nobody (well, except for the jamoke referred to in the OP) expects me to and that's the way I likes it. :D
Totally unrelated but I notice the spell check in Firefox assumes you've misspelled "christian" if you don't capitalize it. Papist bastards. ;)

i think to some (many?) theists - the desire for secularism is pushing atheism.

LOL they're pushing their ideas on people!
Why didn't the priest say this about the Catholic Church for the past 2,000 years? LOL convincing people they are horrible and in need of some spooky father figure who doesn't give a shit.
Then he says, "the world makes a lot more sense if you believe in God." What's he talking about? If you believe in a God who doesn't give a shit like deists, I guess it would make a little bit of sense because every response by a Deist would be "God doesn't give a shit, stop asking questions."
But if you believe in some father who loves all and still allows 12 year old girls to be shot in the head, then that makes no sense whatsoever.
Next thing you know they will be complaining about Microsoft pushing the x-box on us.
Sounds like this padre is upset people are starting to think and not just swallow Jesus' last supper whole.

In the thinking of many of these people, being prevented from forcing their belief on others is the same as pushing atheism on them. Some weird connection where "not teaching any veiwpoint on a subject = teaching a specific view which they hate"

Atheists no more push their beliefs on people than mailmen do. Unless, of course, the mailman is a Christian who wants to save souls while delivering the daily mail.
Atheists, clearly, have no business in saving souls.

Oh I see, the Catholics brought us the counter-reformation and the inquisition. But it's atheists who force their beliefs on other people. Yeah, sure, whatever.

Well, at least the Padre's got a sense of humor, whether he realizes it or not.

Cmon now, everyone knows that the christians in that era had it wrong.
The ones totally totally know what they are doing (until when I am old in the 2050's and they say the ones today had it all wrong)

Aye, the fact that we oppose use of the government to proselytize Christianity is an example of "forcing our views" on the Christians. If things were truly fair, then the government would be promoting their particular brand of Christianity and actively working to suppress all other religious views. The fact that this is not happening is an example of the persecution of Christians.

Yeah, I didn't get that either. How am I suffering my atheism? I have religion, it just happens to be one of those no god religions.
