Could God wish himself out of existence? And if so, could he come back?
If he can't, then I'm not impressed.

Of course he could, and much like the rock thing, of course not.
Thats why it is all clearly a bit crazy.

Reminds me of that same Asimov story (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHilabPBPHI) I linked to in the "was God bored" thread. I must be perseverating on that story for some reason.

If he can't, then I'm not impressed.Just plain bizarre. What are you trying to accomplish with such a discussion, that Atheists can extend their logical reasoning to the allignment with theism?

Better yet, what are you trying to accomplish with that kind of a reply?
Shoosh.

Well, I am trying to understand what prompted you to present such a topic for discussion amogst atheists?
If the overall "concept of congregating" with atheists, at the IIDB, is to vacate the discussion of god with theists, then why would you highlight a discussion about god?

Unless, this is a thread to bash theism... Then it makes perfect sense. I get it.

It's meant to present a hypothetical god ("If there were a god..." is implied) for the purpose of discussing a hypothetical situation which may or may not reveal some aspect of lunacy or irrationality.
The same is done by asking the question "Could God create a rock so heavy that even he could not lift it?"
I've been here for a long time, Cynic. I know what I'm doing.

IIDB is not entirely atheist. There are many people from all walks of life here, including many theists.
Just an FYI that may help you understand why certain questions are asked.

Well said! This is exactly why I can't suffer them theists anymore - their imaginary friend is like a piece of clay, takes any shape desired at a given moment. :)

Assuming God's existence (assuming it's the Omni-god), then he could destroy himself, since he's all-powerful, and "God exists" isn't necessary (some theists would claim otherwise, but I disagree), so God's non-existence is possible.
And no, he couldn't come back, for there would be no God anymore. Still, I suppose it would be possible that a new God would arise later (we're assuming a theistic world to begin with, so why not?).
ETA: then again, an Omni-god could be defined as indestructible, so in that case, no, even he couldn't destroy himself. I guess it would depend on how "Omni" the Omni-God is.

God can represent an infinity of conceptual possibilities.Yea, I think its a great idea, we should all consider the many wonders of God, and the Boogie Woogie monster. Don't censor the Boogie Woogie from the discussion.

There is a rabbinical story to this effect - probably got it completely wrong, but something to the effect that the rabbis proved they didn't need god, god laughed, commented took your time and disappeared.

The Boogie Woogie can also exist thanks to the Hitchhiker's 'Improbability Drive'.
