According to AIG Tiktaalik had fish hips. But according to the authors of the now famous NATURE paper, they never described its hips so AIG is making stuff up.
[t]he hind limbs [of tetrapods] in particular have a robust pelvic girdle securely attached to the vertebral column. This differs radically from that of any fish including Tiktaalik. Essentially all fish (including Tiktaalik) have small pelvic fins relative to their pectoral fins.
But what's the actual answer? I understand that the original two specimens discovered were all front portions of the skeleton. But according to the Tiktaalik website, they now have over 20 specimens.
Do any include the Pelvic area? And if so, is it a fish pelvis or more of a Tetrapod pelvis? Or something in between? Or does it even matter?
