From what I remember of church, we were taught not to worship physical idols. But it seems to me this preacher guy has started this whole obsession with the statues. Anyone agree?

Yes, but I don't accept a prohibition against idols.

These displays have a lot to do with "marking territory". Supporters of them want to make it clear that Christians are running things.
