what is the qualifier for 18+ stores? does the bible meet them?

Have you ever seen Children's Bibles? Most of them are sanitized beyond recognition. Don't want to frighten the wee ones, after all; teach them all the love and kisses before exposing them to the nasty bits (if they're ever so exposed).

yeah, I had one for a while. I was so surprised to learn that goliath was beheaded, *too*.
being 7, I thot that was the coolest thing ever.
I think, after I finish my other projects, I will see if I can get bibles restrained to such stores. it sounds like a delightful hobby.

Is this a moral question? I will send it over there.

The Bible has textual depictions that would get it banned outright in some places. Canada can be picky about incest, for example.

the 1st amendments debate would be delightful.
youd have fundies fighting for religious expression on the same side as hustler who wants sexual expression. on the opposite course, people who want their children protected from explicit material.

Seriously though, I have been giving this some thought. I am opposed to most forms of censorship, and even though I am no great fan of the Bible I do not believe in preventing people (even underage ones) from reading it. It is the responsibility of parents to monitor their children's reading material and to decide what is appropriate for them to learn. I would support a law that required children 13 and under to be accompanied by a parent of legal guardian when purchaseng a Bible, due to the violence and explicit sexuality it contains, but that's it.

This is pointless. Children don't buy bibles. Parents (or sometimes other adults) give the bible to them.

Ok, so you find the Bible offensive enough to limit it to adults, yet people are posting in a pornography thread where anyone should be able to buy and read pornography, and some people have no problem with parents giving their children pornography? Society has reached an all time low...

Well, porn has never caused people to commit genocide. You could argue that they encourage rape, but it is much more likely that it reduces tension.

Note that I said regular porn should be available, not all porn. The kinky stuff should be NC-17.
The Bible contains scenes that I would rate NC-17. How about Lot and his daughters?

Incest/Rape is a lot farther out than masturbation.

But wasn't Onan the guy who was murdered for 'spilling his seed'?

yeah, god punished him for failling to impregnate his brothers wife, if I remember correctly. I would be more concerned about the graphic violence than the sex. for example the story in Judges 19:
19:22-30 After taking in a traveling Levite, the host offers his virgin daughter and his guest's concubine to a mob of perverts (who want to have sex with his guest). The mob refuses the daughter, but accepts the concubine and they "abuse her all night." The next morning she crawls back to the doorstep and dies. The Levite puts her dead body on an ass and takes her home. Then he chops her body up into twelve pieces and sends them to each of the twelve tribes of Israel

Anyone heard about this notable American dimwittery? Allan Sherman describes it in his book, The Rape of the A*P*E* (American Puritan Ethic): The Official History of the Sex Revolution 1945-1973:
Of all the Morality One censors, the purest-minded was surely Noah Webster, author of our best-known dictionary. Mr. Webster was proud of his dictionary, but in 1833 he completed what he himself called his masterpiece -- a completely cleaned-up version of The Holy Bible.
Mr. Webster had removed entire chapters, proclaiming them too filthy for any human being to read. Then, wherever the original Bible had "dirty" words, Webster substituted clean ones:
BIBLE: Teat
WEBSTER: Breast
BIBLE: Stink
WEBSTER: Smell
BIBLE: Spew
WEBSTER: Vomit
BIBLE: In the belly
WEBSTER: In embryo
BIBLE: Give suck
WEBSTER: Nurse, nourish
BIBLE: Fornication
WEBSTER: Lewdness
BIBLE: Whore
WEBSTER: Lewd woman, prostitute
BIBLE: Go a-whoring
WEBSTER: Go astray
BIBLE: Whoredom
WEBSTER: Impurities, idolatries, carnal connection
BIBLE: Lust after
WEBSTER: Desire
BIBLE: Buttocks
WEBSTER: Hind parts
BIBLE: Private parts
WEBSTER: Peculiar members

Oh! You mean in stores for ages 18+! I thought you meant in only roughly 20 stores (around the world, perhaps?). That would be more like what I'd want to see. :D :p
