.....in which he expresses chagrin about "sodomy in our streets"---but what about fornication, adultery, and promiscuity?
He clearly wishes to focus his outrage toward evil on one segment of the population...

Or else he feels that homosexuals are a safer target for his vilification than heterosexuals.

Which they likely are, sadly. Moore is an idiot.

Yeah, in Alabama. I'd like to see him try that shit in a major metropolitan area in the north east or the west. Of course he would have the right to do it, but he would get shouted down by the crowd.

Um. . . I heard, once, that, um, sodomy is not just a homosexual activity.**

There ya go, get rid of the streets and the problem will go away.

Come on now ya all have had your fun- just admit that you guys recruited this Moore guy as a 'Manchurian Candidate' to get Christians out on a limb while you dear people are at the base with a saw.

Well, he does have a point. I conduct my sodomy in my home, not in the streets. Doing it in the streets is taking it a little far, IMHO.

If only it was so, and all this fundamentalism was an athiest strawman... or if only more Christians recognized Moore for the extremist loony he is.

Yeah, just the other day my friends and I were sitting around bemoaning the fact that you can't walk ten feet in this town without stepping in a big ol' puddle of sodomy. This clown is fast becoming the Grand High Exalted Mystic Ruler of rhetorical excess.
I suspect Moore's comment is broader than it appears. IIRC, Alabama is one of those states that defines "sodomy" (or perhaps it's "deviant sexual intercourse") as pretty much every form of sexual contact other than missionary position intercourse undertaken with specific intent to make babies.

As a companion article to the latest Roy Moore article in today's SF Chronicle (page 2 of the front section), Don Lattin, the religion writer for the paper, had a good sized article (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/08/26/MN274126.DTL) on "Which 10 commandments?" which contains material no doubt familiar to all of us here, but I'm sure it will be news to many of the paper's readers.
I'm going to drop him an email and thank him for writing the article.
cheers,
Michael
