Yesterday I attended a completely secular wedding. The officiant was a friend of the bride and groom who is ordained by the Universal Life Church. Right before he declared them husband and wife he said "The state of Minnesota gives me the legal authority to marry you, but the moral authority comes from the love you have for each other."

I thought that was pretty cool.

Yeah, it certainly is. Much better than invoking an absent character for such a special event.

At my wedding I want to be married in the name of Zeus. Or perhaps Gilgamesh. He wasnt a god, but he was pretty cool. He definately beats Yaweh. More depth in his personality. Older too.

It's getting pretty common in some parts these days. Of all the weddings i've been to, only one was Christian. And that one was only to keep her family happy.

You could get our pagan priest Ojuice to marry you in the name of Jupiter. :D

Me, I wouldn't mind being married in a neopagan (Wiccan or other) ceremony myself...

I had that experience a few years back of attending a wedding to find out that it was truly secular. I had no idea that the cousin involved was one of us.

Apparently the gods were not offended because the weather was spectacular and during the reception we were treated to a wondrous ocean sunset through the panoramic windows ;)

It was the 2nd most unique wedding I attended.

My sweetie's father is a judge, and he has offered to perform the wedding ceremony. This means that my sweetie and I can have as secular a ceremony as we want. :D

I really like that... sums up exactly how my fiancee and I feel about it. Have to keep that one in mind :)
