Those members of EyeEye who like the sorts of ideas batted around here at the Philosophical Forums may enjoy a somewhat now dated book of Martin Gardner's, *The Whys of a Philosophical Scrivener* published @ NYC by William Morrow & Co., 1983 (Not sure: 1983?).
This is a nice comfy big middle-of-the-night bed book; very personal/individuated , of Gardner's own opinions about the standard qys: God, prayer, immortality, creation, .... all that stuff. He will not persuade anyone whose own opinions are fairly well set; but his discussions will give you ideas to chew-on.
It's probably out of print by now; have to go scout it out at a large library local to you.

Not only all that but its not a very good book. Gardner ought to stick to his old column in the SciAm because he's not a very good philosopher.

Um, Lots of books are "not very good books", Digi. Anyone who doesn't like what Gardner, or anyone else, has to say, doesn't have to read him, or them.
In This Great Country Of Ours (I hear R Nixon's voice...), people have the right to voice opinions, and to get them published, if anyone will publish them; and I reiterate my opinion, that Gardner ("with all his highly individuated faults") raises some matters in his books which may be new to some of our younger members; and that learning about those matters may provoke their thinking, and examining further into the questions.

I am not, myself, so intelligent, nor well-read either, after a lifetime of reading & trying to learn, that I can afford to dismiss information.... ;)
