Rig Veda (http://www.darrenmain.com/pages/resources/yoga/sacredtexts.html)

Someone asked if there was any texts before the yoga sutras of Patanjali. The Rig Vedas are those texts that predate them.

According to the site about 4000+ years from today.

Someone asked about it, and I can't remember the thread.

But what is the significance of having texts being more than 4000 years old at our disposal?

They deal with concepts of "God" and other stuff.

To see an excerpt from the book. :)

Thoughts?

rig veda is the oldest known indo-aryan origin text. they contain better fleshed out versions of many of the other indo-european beliefs. e.g. the God Zeus is present as Dyaus. The God Agni (fire) shares the same root as Ignis (latin for fire). Plus it is mystical and prophetic in nature. some claim the sage Narashansa (praised one) of the rigveda is identical with the prophet Muhammad (whose name means "praised") and prophecies his coming.

plus it is supposed to be poetic and metaphorical with lots of word imagery. and it has been preseved largely through word of mouth tradition without appreciable changes for the last who knows how many years. some people say 1900BC at least, others say at least 4000 BC.

If you look at Zoroaster's Gathas, they have similar concepts.

This is a non-Abrahamic topic. Moving to NAR&P.
