I would like to challenge Ugly Man on Campus to debate this issue.

Resolved: Men are systematically discriminated against in the US Family Court system leading to a substantial and statistically demonstrated reduced quality of life.

UMoC would take the affirmative, I would take the negative. We can hash out the various details or adjust the topic if UMoC accepts the challenge.

My initial thoughts are

Focuses to be divorce, child custody, and child support

"Systematic" to be defined as happening in the majority of cases and gender bias being demonstrably the key factor.

UMoC has declined the debate via PM. Unless someone else wants to debate the topic you can close this thread.

Gosh. That one's almost tempting. It's not universal, but it's certainly widespread, the default assumption being that children should be with their mother more than with their father. However, I don't think I have enough information to argue that it's *generally* true, or to make claims about how much of an effect it has.

seebs...if you're interested we can adjust the focus. There are stats and public records to be gone over of course...it would be a research heavy debate. Heck, I still have to dig up the stats to take the negative because my knowledge on the subject is far from extensive.

Hmm. I think I probably better decline; I don't think I can do a fair job in any more debates *and* actually earn food money.

?

Why would UMoC decline? This seems right up his alley!

Phooey. I was really looking foward to seeing this one, too.

Don't really have time for a formal, research-heavy debate.

I searched and cannot find one post where I used the term misogynist let alone called you one, yet I can find several where you called me and others feminazis.

I will admit to calling you a misogynist privately and only after you declined this debate.

I think using that as an excuse to not debate me is both dishonest and quite dirty pool.

I will have a go at this one.

the debate I mean.

I dont have a huge amount of free time and since I am not as well versed on this issue as I am on some others I would need a decent interval between posts, at least 5 days, if you are still interested, I would like to do this, sounds like fun.

Also, can we stick with internet sources on the basis that any source used, the url will be posted?

Great! I have no problem with the 5 days or with Internet only sources so we can link to them.

Um, is the resolution thingie okay with you or did you want to change it? How many rounds did you want to go?

Hi folks,

You're welcome to set up the parameters of your debate proposal here, but Beyelzu, we'd like you to finish your current debate on affirmative action first before you get involved in another one. Until then, a start date proposal will have to be placed on the backburner.
