I went to the graduation ceremony today at UNC-Chapel Hill, two good friends are at last graduates. They passed out the usual booklets with all the information about the graduating classes. They had a few briefs about students inserted in the margins of the booklet. Some of them were religious. I'm quoting one such brief(the worst of the religious ones)
"My love of God and my faith in Him have been the sustaining forces behind my academic achievements at UNC. My "Bethany" name card quotes Proverbs 3:5. I have adhered to that wisdom and trusted Him witha ll my heart. I pray God will allow my knowledge and experience gained at Carolina to be used to serve Him." - Bethany Madison
I couldn't help but wonder why the hell she wasted $40,000+ and 4+ years on education if all that's going to come out of her mouth is mindless devotion to a supernatural entity? Especially given her education came from the most liberal university in NC and one of the most liberal in southeast. The fact that I've been feeling depressed about my own academic achievements did color my observation.
On the other hand, there were some excellent briefs which brought up my hopes for the University.
"I count my passport as one of my most valuable possessions. It symbolizes and make possible the universal freedom I am afforded as an American. By allowing me to study abroad through a UNC program, it has been integral in my education as a global citizen by providing me with sympathetic experience to complement the intellectual." - Heather Lee Messera
