The Big Question with Stephen Hawking (Scientific Documentary) on Channel 5 (UK) tonight Monday 5 January 2004 19:30.

Some of the uk doesn't get 5 so the chances are low, cor 10 minutes to go.:)

Not bad, not deep science but then it's not for researchers so...

Stephen had his simpsons character on his desk :D

Never really heard that bubble theory before.

That universes are created out of nothing like bubbles in boiling water.

Not much to discuss really, or at least nothing that I can think of.
Apart from them not mentioning Brane or M- theory.

I agree with Jmebob. The usual dumbed-down version for the layman.

I was struck by SH's comment that the universe was an insignificant event, like a bubble forming in boiling water. It makes one wonder if there could be lots of bubbles and we can't see the water, never mind the other bubbles. Does the maths support this view?

Maybe this explains why we love the randomness of events in a lava lamp. :cool:

But, bubbles still have a beginning right? Forgive me, but I just finished reading a Brief History of Time, and I was wondering if he still advocates for a continuous/ no-singularity universe (i.e. against any Big Bang or Big Crunch).
