It is believed by some that the former British PM Margaret Thatcher 'saved' the British economy from ruin.

I say such a claim is without foundation and false!!

Yes, the UK was a in a bad state under the previous Labour government. Nonetheless, inflation under Thatcher once reached the heights of that under Wilson! Unemployment under the Wilson/Callaghan government was relavtively low. Under Thatcher it reached 3 million, in a period even when Britain WASN'T in recession!

I want to argue that Thatcher's economic 'record' is GREATLY overrated!!

I think it will take someone from the UK to debate this one. Unfortunately, although I'm usually quite willing to wave the flag for the English outlook, I hate Thatcher's guts and couldn't possibly argue that she was in the right. Anyone else?
