Does the Historical Jesus theory really have any more evidence supporting it than, say, a Historical Hercules theory, or a Historical Mithra theory?
I suppose what I'm asking is, can the same methodology used to infer the exitence of a Historical Jesus be successfully applied to other god-men who have a bunch of old books written about them and their miracles?

Jesus is about as well attested as Odysseus, though his environs and details about his time are have much more on them.
And having read the Odyssey and the four Gospels, I do prefer the Odyssey.

Hey, he is attested in the Iliad as well!
. . . and they found Troy!
. . . so he is real!

"Now, Linus was the teacher of Hercules, but Hercules preceded the Trojan war by one generation; and this is manifest from his son Tlepolemus, who served in the army against Troy."
- Early church apologist Tatian, Address to the Greeks ch. XLI
Tatian said it, so it must be true.

I'd choose Disney's Hercules over the Passion of the Christ any time!
...or not.

Does Lucy Lawless appear in The Passion?
No?
I think that settles the matter. . . .
