As a Christian wrestling with my faith I found "God is Smiling on Me" particularly insiteful. It underscored an area that really annoys me about Christianity. I commute to and from work with a fellow Christian. This fellow Christian had sold his house and bought a new one. In the process of selling the house the inspector uncovered a host of problems with the old house (just one examle: the modular home had literally not been completely attached and was still more or less in two halves!) I asked him how on earth he sold the thing without paying for any repairs. He told me "God" brought along a fellow Christian who could only pay cash to buy the home. (He seemed to be implying that because she was a Christian God had brought her along.) She couldn't qualify for a loan for the home anyway, so paid cash for it despite all the problems with the home.

So in essence he was saying that God takes care of his children by taking advantage of the other less fortunate, more stupid children. I was completely dumbfounded. We had a quiet commute.
