...a company who's business is selling religious books, shirts, etc as an athiest?

I have been lately, but my gut has been saying leave. I don't share the same belief nor do I really want to be helping spread this "message" around. Think I'm gonna quit.

Whoa....hmm....honestly I don't think I could do it unless there was no other work available and I was starving or about to be thrown out on the street.

I dunno, in this economy, many of us have had to sell our values to the highest bidder to keep food on the table. I would rather do something other than your job, if something that paid the same was available.

Is this company a church or ministry, or just some capitalists making a buck off believers?

Actually, they're Bahá’Ã_. Guess you could call them capitalists.

Bahai is pretty inclusive of all beliefs. They seem harmless.

Well, look for another job. Don't quit until you have something else though. Being unemployed sucks.

Actually, it was my 2nd job. I still have a near fulltime job.

Edited to add:

I was unemplyed for 6 months last year. I had unemloyment coming in. Best 6 months of my life. If I could figure out a way to do nothing for the rest of my life and get paid a salary......

For me to do my best at the job would mean promoting a worldview that I do not agree with or believe in.

If I have no other employment options, that would be a whole 'nother story.

Some people I know will not sell out their principles for absolutely anything - and consequently have trouble finding work.

I will say this: If you must work somewhere like that, don't make a fuss or try to make any anti-religious statements, not so much for your job security as because it's the polite thing to do. It really doesn't matter much when you're talking about retail sales anyway - someone has already made the choice to buy religious merchandise and would have bought it no matter what, so you aren't exactly doing anything to make matters better or worse. If your job was to read the Bible to kids, that would be a different case.

I would never work for any group trying to spread religious beliefs, whether through t-shirts or through a credit-union (I know a woman, one of the most unpleasantly biased Christians I know, who works in an Evangelical Christian Credit Union). It goes against everything I stand for and would be the ultimate in self-betrayal. Also, it would be instrusive of me to work in an environment that would have strong religious overtones. I would feel uncomfortable, and so would the people around me.

No way. I have too much integrity (and I mean WAY too much, like an unhealthy amount hehe). Top Ramen is cheap. Of course, I have no kids, so that might help to sway some on this kind of thing. I certainly wouldn't hold it against someone if they worked for, say, Wal-Mart or god forbid (pun intended) Hobby Lobby or something.

Speaking of Hobby Lobby. Stay the hell out of that place! They are handing out tracks at the registers now. http://www.hobbylobby.com/site3/ministry/ministry.htm

I would only work at a place like that if I was absolutely desperate for work. And I would tell them that I was an atheist - if they refused to employ me on those grounds, then I would report them for discrimination.

If I can't find anywhere that will take me, I might just have to take that route - I'm currently unemployed. There's a Christian bookstore up in Wollongong that I might look into.

I could not, but simply because I have been told that I have trouble keeping my mouth shut, or so I am told. I would more than likely be out of a job fairly quickly.

Ethically, it would depend on how hungry I was, in all honesty.

I wouldn't mind. Money's money. Plus, if you want to think of it on a moral/religious level, you can think of the fact that they'd probably just hire some other religious freak and you might as well be draining their money. If you're involved in the production aspect of things, just do a bad job if you're not going to get caught. Just think of it as your way to get back at organized religion.

Of course, all of this is strictly my opinion...if you find it offensive, I apologize in advance.

Not unless I was about to be made homeless. Or I might take up the offer and see how long it would take before I were fired ;)

I could if it paid well and it was all I could get. I play hymns for money at funerals and weddings on bagpipes, I don’t have a problem with that.

Depends on the circumstances. If I was unemployed and they pay more than the dole, hell yes. I wouldn't look at it as a career path, but as a tide-me-over job until I find something else.

worship of that monster is repulsive to me.
