Hi, I have a suggestion. How about a sticky post in the activism forum with links to where users can go and support our causes. E.g the petition to stop the FCC, the petition to stop the constitution restoration act, perhaps a link to where people can donate to the kerry campaign etc. I speak from experience; sometimes people want to be active but we don't have an outlet to do so. BTW, congrats on the new look!

Hey, do you think that this would be a good idea for this proposed forum (http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=80415)?

I sure do. I think that any forum which intends to promote some cause or goal, ought to always have a list of things on hand, which a person can do to promote that cause.

Can someone move this post to the Church and State/Activism forum? I really think my suggestion is important, but I'm barely getting any feedback here. :banghead:  Perhaps the Church and State/Activism regulars will have a better reception to my idea.

Well, it might belong more in the new Positive Atheism forum that has been suggested and accepted. But sure, I'll send it over to CSS for the time being since that forum hasn't been created (yet).

How about including links to the threads about the various godspam emails that we receive from time-to-time? It would help to be a quick reference for coming up with a response when we see them.

Would anyone care to begin suggesting good activism links, so that when the PA&SA forum starts up, we can create the sticky?

We can start with the freedom of Speech. We all know who is the puppeteer(s) behind the FCC, right? We all know who are the group of people that want to dictate to the rest of the country how we ought to live, right? They begin by trying to dictate what is indecent and what isn't. So far, they seem to have succeeded (Howard was taken off the air this morning  ). Do you guys know what this means? IT'S TIME TO TAKE THE GLOVES OFF!

----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
A bill, the Constitution Restoration Act of 2004, H.R. 3799, and
S. 2082, is pending in Congress. This bill would immunize
lawbreakers like former Judge Roy Moore who seek to unilaterally
undo the First Amendment, and to assert, against all the
principles of our secular society, the primacy of a particular
religion's god above our law. This act threatens to undo our
great secular tradition, the Constitution, and the rule of law
in our nation. I urge you to vote against the affront to what
Jefferson called the "wall" of separation of church and state,
and to stand up against those who would undo the First Amendment
for personal political gain.
----END OF LETTER TO BE SENT----
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Note that the Secular Web has an "Activists' Corner" page:
http://www.infidels.org/activist/index.shtml
There is also an "Organizations" page:
http://www.infidels.org/org/index.shtml
And an "Events" page:
http://www.infidels.org/events/index.shtml
And a "Newswire" page:
http://www.infidels.org/wire/index.shtml
Perhaps an idea for a sticky thread would be one that points to these links, and other relevant links such as the ones suggested by other posters above. Alternatively, the relevant infidels.org links could be modified to include suggested valuable Activism links, and the sticky thread simply refer the user to the infidels.org links.
