Sole First Temple relic may be a forgery (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/408911.html) (Haaretz, 3/26/04).

If this keeps going it might kill Lemaire's career, and I'm not sure if that would be a bad thing.

I think all 1st temple artefacts should be considered questionale now until proven otherwise!

The Israel Museum coughed up a lot of dough for the pomegranate. Their antiquities director must be feeling rather queasy at the moment.

Well, Drori certainly must. It was his decision and he defended it with his reputation. But Dorfman isn't bound in such a way, hence he had it delivered for inspection. If it goes down then I think Lemaire will as well. And I can see all our readers saying, "what a shame."

(if this belongs somewhere else, please move--- this used to be the archaeology forum)

The only relic from Solomon's temple, on view in Israel since 1988, may be a fake by the same guys who did the Ossuary.

just a FYI...

The article was cited a few days ago {Deleted}

However it didn't raise much of a storm, though perhaps it should have. I guess people here are just to nt oriented, as a reaction to their rejection of xianity.

sorry--- I had done a quick glance and missed this...

This should be causing a fuss--- this is the definitive artifact that proved the time line of the OT, apparently. Without this, they are back to 'well, we think it happened'.

However, at a minimum, when in a discussion re evolution and piltdown man is sited, we can counter with this--- both forgeries that do not discount the whole, although there is much less other than this to back the OT than there is for evo...

Thanks for combining.

Mods: if you are going to change the title of the thread but keep me listed as the "starter," I would appreciate it if you would avoid spelling errors. The proper spelling of the fruit in question is "pomegranate." Your actions have resulted in the appearance that I am a poor speller, which is a grievous injury to my reputation! My initial thread title may have been long and unwieldy, but I did spell "pomegranate" correctly.

Huffily,

No, no, they were trying to enhance your rep by showing what a clever punster you were, making a cool pun about a pomegranate that is made of stone, pomeGRANITE.

Actually, only the first half of Apikorus' word "pomegranate" is authentic. The second half appears to be a forgery, which is clearly apparent from differences in the way the letters are made, and the depth of the patina....
