View Full Version : Are we compatible with heaven?

Concerning a post I made on whether it is possible for us to enter heaven (moved from Eog to GRD) I would like to propose a formal debate on the matter, with me arguing for the position that we are not compatible with heaven. If this is a problem, due to me already posting on the subject on this site, please let me know if and how I may rectify it.

Before the challenge is accepted, I would like to point out I have very little time on weekends due to work, so perhaps a weekday deadline would be more suitable. If this is not possible I may be able to sort out something in the evenings, but it will be somewhat of a difficulty.

Not sure if this is relevant, but this debate is not intended to prove or disprove anything (though I'm sure very few debates intend to go that far). This is for me simply my attempt to explore new regions in the field of philosophy, but I hope that won't discourage anyone from hitting me as hard as they can. (I'd actually appreciate it - it can only be good for my learning).

Anyway, the challenge is made and awaits acceptance.

Thank-you

I don't understand the challenge. Is it your claim that nobody ever gets to heaven? Is there an implicit if-Christianity-is-true aspect of your challenge?

Nobody CAN get to heaven.

As to the christianity aspect, it isn't necessary (since a few other religions share a congruent view of heaven), but it would probably be simpler to argue from that belief system.

Nobody CAN get to heaven.

So, what's your theory? I think nobody can get to Heaven because it doesn't exist. Presumably you have some other line of thought going.

IF it exists it does not exist for us to get there, based on judeo-christian and gnostic christian conceptions of the realm.

You aren't being very forthcoming. If Christianity is true, then people do get to heaven---because that's what the Christians believe.

Is it your position that the Christians are wrong about what they believe? I'm about to wash my hands of this discussion. Why don't you disclose your position and then try to get someone to oppose it?

No problem, AB. :) Since there's no need for debate, this thread will now be closed.
